Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 9: In yet another heartwarming example of Kashmiriyat, Muslims in a village in south Kashmir district of Pulwama helped perform the last rites of a Kashmiri Pandit amid unabated rise in the number of fresh COVID-19 cases and deaths. According to details, as soon as the news of the death of 70-year-old Chaman Lal, spread in village Tahab in Pulwama, members of Muslim community on Saturday came in large numbers to his house to condole the death. As only few of his family members and relatives were around, the Muslim neighbours of the deceased took it upon themselves to help perform the last rites of Lal, a former BSNL employee. The locals made all arrangements for the funeral of deceased in accordance with Hindu customs. Lal’s family is one of the many Kashmiri pandit families that did not migrate in the 1990s but opted to stay on in their native village in the valley.
