World Red Cross Day celebration by NCC and NSS units at GCW Udhampur

Udhampur, May 9: World Red Cross Day on the theme 2021 'Together we are unstoppable!' was celebrated online with enthusiasm and zeal to pay tribute to Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross.
The event was jointly organised by the NCC and NSS units of the college under 'Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' ( Celebrating 75 years of Independence) on 8th May 2021. To mark the birth anniversary of 'Jean Henry Dunant', Government College for Women, Udhampur organized an essay writing competition on the theme “15 Minutes can Save 3 Lives” wherein almost 72 students of the college participated. Dr. A.K. Raina , HoD in Hindi and Prof. Tania Akhter, HoD in English were the judges for the competition. Highlighting the importance of World Red Cross Day, Prof. Minu Mahajan, Principal of the college, urged upon the youngsters to volunteer for human welfare and develop in them the principles of universality, impartiality, love, care and sympathy.
The first position was bagged by Prakriti Sharma, whereas Anshad Bibi stood second and Yukta Sharma stood third in the competition. The students were given e-certificates for their participation.
The organising committee included Lt (Dr) Kamal Deep Kaur, Associate NCC Officer, Prof. Sumita Rao, NSS Programme Officer, Prof. Sanjay Kumar, NSS Programme Officer of the College.
