| Infiltration has upward trend | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 8: The level of infiltration of militants from across the LOC has registered an upward trend during the last fortnight. Official sources said that comparative figures on ingress have revealed that between July and first week of October 2008 there had been at least 20 per cent increase when compared to the corresponding period last year. According to these official sources, more than 800 militants have been brought on the launching pads across Kupwara, Keran, Tangdhar, Gurez, Machel, Poonch and Rajouri. Over 200 militants have been brought close to the border across Samba and Akhnoor Professional guides and trans-border smugglers have been hired by agencies across the border for helping these militants in sneaking into Jammu and Kashmir in small groups. Sources said that since from next month onwards the border routes may get buried under snow, agencies across the LOC were trying to push into Jammu and Kashmir as many militants as possible so that they could assist those operating in the state in kicking of violence ahead of the election. Once the poll schedule was announced militants, who had been hitherto directed to lie low, would resort to subversive activities for disrupting the pre-poll campaign and the polling. Sources stated that in the light of these developments the troops have been directed to carry out round the clock patrolling on the entire border .They have been asked to initiate measures which could prevent infiltrators from snapping the fence for making way for their infiltration. Reports said more gadgets, including censors, were being installed on the border for monitoring the movement of the infiltrators. Troops are under instructions to shoot down anyone found crossing the border. |
