Folk dances enthrall pilgrims

UDHAMPUR, Oct 8: Amidst unprecedented activities added with spiritual atmosphere, a colourful cultural procession highlighting the cultural and religious significance of the state was taken out from Asia crossing Katra where a large number of people from all section of the society, devotees and yatries accompanied the procession last evening.
Vice Chancellor Shree Mata Vaishno Devi University, Prof. N.K. Bansal and Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Mr. Lakshami Prasad Sadotra who were the special guests on the occasion jointly lit the sacred jyoti before the start of procession.
Attractive cultural procession after passing through the main locations of the holy town of Katra, the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, finally culminated at Govt. Higher Secondry School Katra.
Dy. Director Tourism, Mr. Amit Sharma, Sub Divisional Magistrate Katra Mr. R.R. Sharma, President Cultural Association, Katra Mr. Surinder Khajuria, President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, other officers of various departments, members of Navratra Festival Committee, large number of pilgrims and locals accompanied the procession.
On the occasion, Hassya Vayang Manch Katra organized a Hassya Kavi Goshti in which as many as twelve renowned poets recited their poetic compositions and received huge appreciation from across the audience at Geeta Bhavan during the 8th day of Navratra last evening. Poets who participated in the Goshti included Dr. Jitender Udhampuri, Prof. Shiv Nirmohi, Mr. Inderjeet Kesar, Dr. Gian Singh, Mr. M.K. Pagal, Mr. Bishan Dass Gharia, Mr. Karan Singh Wazir, Mr. Tara Samailpuri, Mr. Raj Kumar, Mr. Randhir Singh Raipuri, Surinder Singh Manhas and Mr. Kewal Kumar Kewal.
President Hassya Vayang Manch Katra, Mr. Gopal Padha, Vice President Mr. Rajesh Purohit, Gen. Secy. Mr. Rattan Sharma and executive members of the Manch were also present on the occasion.
In another most attractive event, “All India Devotional Song Contest” being organized by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and State Tourism Department during the Navratra Festival, Mr. Vinod Magotra of Amritsar, Mr. Varun Kotwal of Bhaderwah, Kapil Thappa of Kathua, Julekha Farid of Bhaderwah and Sarabjeet Singh of Jammu were succeeded to enter into the mega final Bhaint contest after qualifying Semi Final.
According to the Chairman All India Devotional Song Contest, Mr. Rakesh Wazir who is personally supervising the proceedings of the mega event, disclosed that a total 18 participants who were declared second and third winners during the last 9 days participated in the semi final and only five were selected for mega final being held at Yog Asharm Katra.
