JU releases fixture for first phase
Inter-college competitions

JAMMU, Oct 8: Divided into two phases this time, the Department of Physical Education of the University of Jammu has released the fixture for first phase of annual inter-college competitions.
The first event mentioned in the fixture—the Cross Country (men and women) has already taken place on September 29 on the campus.
Swimming competitions, as per the fixture, shall take place at M A Stadium swimming pool at 10 am. The competition shall be conducted according to the rules of the Swimming Federation of India. Each college shall be permitted to enter a maximum of two swimmers for each individual event. The events: 100 mts free style, 200 mts free style, 100 mts back stroke, 200 mts back stroke, 100 mts breast stroke, 200 mts breast stroke and 50 mts free style.
As per the fixture, which is signed by the Director Physical Education, Prof Lokesh Verma, the handball competition in women section shall be held on October 20 at 10.30 am at Government College for Women (GCW) Parade.
It will be followed by the inter-college women hockey tournament scheduled for October 20 at K K Hakhu Stadium, here. Only four teams have filed their entries for the two-day competition.
The women volleyball event shall be held from November eight at University grounds. A good number of 13 teams, representing various colleges, have confirmed their entries. Last year, the volleyball title was won by PG Departments beating GCW Parade in the final.
Inter-college chess competition shall start from November 10 simultaneously in both men and women sections at Gymnasium hall of the University of Jammu. Eighteen teams are there in fray for men’s event whereas 14 affiliated colleges have come forward in women section.
It has been mentioned in the fixture, also distributed to the participating colleges, to send a team consists of maximum of six players (including two reserve players) but with a pre-condition that only four shall be allowed to participate. The participating colleges have been requested by the organizers to bring their own chess boards.
The table tennis events (men and women) shall take place from November 13 at Gymnasium Hall of the University of Jammu from 11 am onwards.
Inter-college women kabaddi competitions shall be held from November 17 at University grounds. The men basketball event has been scheduled for November 17 at Gymnasium Hall of the University of Jammu.
Men’s boxing competition is scheduled to be held from November 20 at Boxing ring of the J&K Police in 12 different weight categories starting from Light Fly to Super Heavy Weight.
The hockey event in men’s section shall take place from November 24 at K K Hakhu Stadium, here. Ten teams are there in the contest for top honours. Last year, the title was won by MAM College.
Meanwhile, as per the fixture, a player born on or after 01-09-1983 (for PG Departments) with having passed higher secondary examinations in 2002 is allowed to take part in the competitions. In case of College students, the passing year of Higher Secondary is 2005, with no change in the Date of Birth.
