| Rs. 44 cr infrastructural development program underway in Kargil | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Oct 9:With a view to give further boost to education in the far flung and remote areas of Kargil district, a massive infrastructural development program under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Prime Minister's Package have been taken in hand at a cost of Rs..43.69 crore. Under the program, 75 new primary schools, 78 Education Guarantee Centres (EGC), 56 Cluster Resource Centres and 19 computer Block Resource Centres and KGBVs have been established in the district. Similarly143 primary schools and 78 EGCs have been upgraded to the level of middle and primary schools respectively. As many as 653 ReTs, education volunteers and other required staff have also been engaged under the program. School buildings for 160 primary schools, 19 middle schools and 35 block resource centres have been constructed under SSA, besides constructing 217 additional class rooms and providing drinking water and toilet facilities to 28 schools. Similarly under the Prime Minister's Package, Rs.8.30 crore has been utilized for construction of 11 higher secondary and high school buildings in the district, besides constructing additional class rooms in six high schools .Under Centrally Sponsored Scheme as many as 94 schools of the district are being provided drinking water facilities by the end of this year. For this purpose Rs.1.36 crore has been earmarked. So far 35 schools have been provided such facilities. |
