Early Times Report

Vijaypur, May 21: Due to alleged negligence of district administration Samba, a body of COVID-19 victim was taken to his home, instead of his last rites being performed according to the protocol.
As per the guidelines, the bodies of COVID-19 victims are directly to be taken to the crematorium or the graveyard, but in this case, rules were blatantly violated not only by the family members of the deceased, but the administration as well.
“The victim resident of Chak Bagla of Panchayat Vijaypur was infected with COVID-19 and died at Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu.
The body was handed over to his family members who took it home, where a large number of relatives, neighbours and family members were present”, sources informed Early Times.
SDM Chander Prakash Kotwal Vijaypur, who is also Nodal Officer did not pick up the phone for his comments over the issue.
However, Sarpanch Chak Salaria Panchayat, Vijay Choudhary said that his village could pay a heavy price for the alleged negligence of the administration.
“Many people participating in the last rites of the deceased can lead to a surge in the COVID-19 cases in the area,” he added.
He said, “Yesterday, the Health Department’s team conducted Covid tests of 80 persons in the area, but not a single positive case was reported. The team will conduct testing for next two days.”
