| LoC trade: Last barricade out | | PaK traders in Srinagar, reaching Jammu Sunday | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 9: Taking last barricade out of the Cross-Line of Control trade route, a 20-member delegation of the Pakistan administration Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries today reached Srinagar to a warm welcome. The delegation, to work out the trade modalities, will be in Srinagar for three days and will reach Jammu on October 12 to have discussions with Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries and other allied trade and business bodies. The delegation is led by PaK Chamber president Zulfikar Abbassi. Traveling through the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service, the delegation was received at Kaman Post this afternoon by Commissioner-Secretary Industries and Commerce Pawan Kotwal, Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla Baseer Ahmad Khan. The President Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Dr. Mubeen Shah, President Federation of Chamber and Industries, Mr. Shakeel Qalander, President Fruit Grower Association Chowdhary Mohammad Rafiq, representatives and members of various trade federations welcomed the delegation. Interacting with traders, federation representatives at Salamabad, Uri, the visiting delegation expressed satisfaction on starting trade on October 21 across LoC through the Jehlum Valley and Poonch Rawalakot roads. They hoped that the opening of trade routes would open new vistas of economic activities on both sides of LoC. They said that it would also cement the bonds of love and affinity between the people on both sides. They hoped that India and Pakistan would take initiatives for strengthening Confidence Building Measures (CBM) and described opening of trade routes one of the biggest CBM's. Zulfikar Abbasi said that they were overwhelmed by the love and affection showewred on them here. He hoped that the opening of cross LoC trade routes would follow increase in frequency and volume of trade on these routes. While speaking to crowded gathering of media at Kaman Post, Zulfikar Abassi, “We are indeed glad to begun the journey of peace and prosperity. We are happy to reunite business relations broken down 60 years back." "We have come with message of peace and prosperity. We hope that intra-Kashmir trade will strengthen the peace process and help in resolving all issues."," Abassi told reporters immediately after crossing 'Aman Sethu' (peace bridge). When asked, is this trade move would be symbolic or substantial, Abassi said, "We believe it would substantial trade rather than symbolic trade and it is historical visit and decision taken between the two countries." |
