| Govt regrets Valley strike | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Oct 10: A spokesman of the State Government today regretted the call for protest and strike given by some elements at a time when trade activity in Kashmir Valley is picking up and cross-LoC trade is about to take off. The spokesman said that strikes and disruption in peace is not in the interest of the people and the trade activities in Kashmir. He said at a time when the Governments of India and Pakistan have, through concerted efforts, made the cross-LoC trade a reality and a trade delegation from PoK was in the town to negotiate with their counterparts here, the starting of trade from October 21, such calls of strikes and protests only hamper the movement forward and give jolt to economic activities. The people of the State have already suffered immensely due to agitation and frequent bandh calls, the spokesman added. Referring to the commissioning of the 450 MW Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project and Railways in Kashmir, the spokesman said that the State is going through an unprecedented phase of economic development, adding that any effort to slow it down through frequent uncalled for bandhs and agitations would be unfair and against the interests of the people of the State. |
