| Delimit constituencies before polls: Bhim to PM | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Oct 10:Maintaining that elections in state were the need of the hour Panthers Supremo, Bhim Singh today said that delimitation of constituencies were more essential to eradicate inequitable political representation of Jammu region. Panthers Supermo who called on Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh in Srinagar today in connection with holding of forthcoming Assembly elections in the state submitted a memorandum to him demanding delimitation of constituencies before going to polls. He said that before holding the general election a due respect has to be shown to the mandate of the State Constitution which requires Delimitation of the Assembly Constituencies after every census. Regretting that the census in Kashmir Valley was held on the desks of revenue officials without going to the people, he said that the census held into 2001 has shown increase of 11 lakhs people in the Valley as compared to the province of Jammu. He further said that the area of Jammu region is almost double the area of the Valley, adding, in Jammu region one MLA represents 83949 voters on average, while in Kashmir valley one MLA represents 62713 voters on average. He however said that his party was in favor of holding the elections on time, as according to him, the democratic process would automatically defeat the forces inimical to unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country. Bhim Singh also submitted the PM a list of seven constituencies in Jammu region whose number of voters are more than one lakh He said that geographical terrains, the means of communication, the road connectivity and the number of electorates in Jammu region creates a strong case in favour of the Delimitation of the Assembly Constituencies. |
