| In Guv days, Congress rule irks many leaders | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 10: In the function of high significance hosted by Governor’s administration –which is expected to be apolitical –the Congress dominance irked many a top political leaders who had to leave the venue in a huff. National Conference president Omar Abdullah boycotted the inauguration ceremony of Baglihar power project by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh when he felt humiliated on the allegedly shabby treatment meted out to him. PDF leader and former Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Sayeed, CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami and NC ex-MLA Sajjad Kichloo also followed the suit. Leaders of all political parties had been invited to Chanderkote to attend the inaugural ceremony of Baglihar project but dominance on the occasion was only of the Congress leaders. Even those enjoying no office or seat in the legislature were treated with a high degree of protocol while others like NC President and Member Parliament Omar Abdullah were isolated. Omar was annoyed to the extent that he refused to board state chopper to take flight back to Srinagar and late in the evening also boycotted the Prime Minister’s all-party meeting. Omar and his party MLA Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, walked out while protesting against the alleged shabby treatment they were meted out with at Chanderkot. The two walked out when they saw that seats had not been allotted to them on the dais. In his capacity as MP and president of largest political party, Omar Abdullah deserved the right to be seated on the dais. When he found that he had not be allotted a seat on the dais he left the site with anger writ large on his face. It made Omar fuming when he saw two former Chief Ministers Azad and Mufti and local MP Chowdhary Lal Singh seated with the Prime Minister. Meted out with the same treatment, PDF leader Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, Communist Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami and former Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir also left the venue. |
