| MoU for more 2100 MW | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 10: The Centre and the J&K government signed an agreement to set up three hydro projects to harness over 2100 MW of electricity in the state on Friday. Under the project, a joint venture company would be formed to tap over 2100 MW of hydro power by commissioning three power projects on River Chenab. Speaking on the occasion, Jairam Ramesh said that work in this direction would start soon and a joint venture company would be floated at the earliest to undertake the process. He said J&K has vast potential for hydro power and the need is to tap it for giving boost to its economy. Of the three power projects that will come up under the joint venture, 1,000 MW Pakuldul project has been identified. The MoU was signed between Commissioner State Power Development Department Sandeep Naik, NHPC Chief Managing Director S.K. Garge, Power Trading Corporation Chief managing Director T N Thakur and Power Development Corporation (PDC) MD Shant Manu, ahead of the Prime Minister's visit to Baglihar to dedicate 450 MW project today. |
