| Make recruitments quick process: Vohra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Oct 11: The Public Service Commission has said that it made 951 recruitments in a record period of four months against 2168 recruitments made in past four years. This information was given by the PSC chairman Mohammad Shafi Pandit to the Governor NN Vohra while foundation laying ceremony of the PSC complex in Srinagar today. He said that the Commission has made strenuous efforts to streamline the selection process and referred to the filling up of 951 positions in a record period of four months from April to July this year, against 2168 recruitments made during the past four years. He said that the Commission had also cleared 3500 promotions during this period. The Governor, N N Vohra stressed the crucial role of Public Service Commission in expediting selection process to various category of posts, saying that avoidable delays adversely affect the system of governance and delivery of public services. After laying the foundation stone of the new office complex for PSC at Solina, near here, this morning, the Governor said that the institution of PSC, having constitutional status, had the bounden responsibility of ensuring transparency in the selection process while choosing the best available talent for manning various posts. "In fact, efficient and honest governance largely rests on the efficiency and integrity with which PSC function", he observed while stressing the high importance of fair selection processes. The Governor dwelt on the evolution of State Public Service Commissions since Independence and said that, at both the Central and the State levels, the highest level recruitment bodies have withstood the test of times and strengthened the Administration with talented officers. Referring to the recent trend of challenging the selections, he stressed that that transparency in the selection process would provide greater satisfaction to candidates appearing for selection to various posts. He also made a reference of the crucial role of the Union Public Service Commission in making selections to the All India and Central Services. Vohra observed that delays in the selection process for various category of posts would be significantly reduced if an effective system was followed to list arising vacancies and intimate these at least a year in advance to the PSC instead of doing so months after the vacancies have actually arisen. This, he said, will contribute to the effective functioning of the administrative machinery. Speaking on the occasion, Pandit said that the biggest challenge before the J&K Public Service Commission was to complete the selection process in a time-bound manner. He referred to inadequacy of manpower and said that the recent disturbances had adversely affected the selection process. Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council, Dr G N Hanjoora, Advisors to Governor, H H Tyabji, Dr Sudhir S Bloeria, C Phunsog, Chief Secretary, S S Kapur and other state officers were present on the occasion. |
