Rs 2.26 Cr compensation awarded in 126 cases
Fast track in accident cases

JAMMU, Oct 11: A Special Lok Adalat, which was held at District Court Complex Janipur here, and inaugurated by the Chief Justice J&K High court Justice Manmohan Sarin, today decided 128 Motor accident claim cases and awarded compensation amounting to over Rs.2. 26 crore. It also decided 33 cases pertaining to banks and passed recovery orders of Rs 2.5 crores.
In this Special Lok Adalat six Benches were constituted. First Bench comprising SL Pandita Presiding Officer Consumer Forum Jammu with Bala Joyti District Judge took up 64 cases and decided 30 cases and awarded compensation to the tune of Rs 54, 70, 000. The Bench comprising BL Bhat Special Judge Anticorruption, with Sanjay Parihar District Judge, took up 94 cases of MACT and settled 41 cases awarding Rs 55 lakhs as compensation.
The third Bench comprising BM Gupta District Judge and Puneet Gupta 1st Additional District and Sessions Judge Jammu, decided 19 MACT cases awarding compensation of Rs 30, 15, 000 while the bench comprising DK Kapoor District and Sessions Judge, presently Judicial Member Sales Tax Appellate Tribunal with under Singh District Judge, took up 50 MACT cases. Of these 12 cases were decided by awarding a compensation of Rs 35, 82,000.
The 5th bench comprising Sudesh Warikoo District Judge with Sanjay Gupta 3rd Additional Sessions Judge Jammu took up 41 cases of MACT and decided 26 cases and awarded Rs 50, 54, 000 as compensation. The sixth Bench comprising Sanjeev Gupta Additional District and Sessions Judge Anticorruption Jammu with Sikander-e-Azam Choudhary Special Excise Mobile Magistrate Jammu, took up 46 cases pertaining to the bank cases and decided 33 cases and ordered recovery of over Rs. 2..5 crores.
This Special Lok-Adalat was held under the overall supervision of Principal District and Sessions Judge, JR Kotwal, who is also Chairman District Legal Service Authority Jammu. (JNF)
