| PoK refugees threaten poll boycott | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 11: PoK refugees of 1947 on Saturday threatened to boycott the forthcoming assembly elections, if 24 seats, as per the Constitution, are not allotted to the refugees. Addressing media persons here today, Tirath Singh, state vice president, Janta Dal (Secular) and leader of PoK refugees said that in order to highlight the cause of PoK refugees a new organization under the name and style of PoK Migrants United Front has been formed. He alleged that due to wrong polices of state and central governments, the community has been facing hardships and denying from their just and genuine rights has led these people to become refugees in their own homeland. Singh demanded package of Rs 30 lakhs per family, quota in government jobs, and modernizing refugee’s basties with proper road connectivity, allotment of 24 assembly seats to refugee enclaves in coming assembly elections. He also stressed for treating PoK migrants at par with Kashmiri migrants and providing them all facilities. Tirth Singh said that time is not conducive for holding polls in Jammu and Kashmir and the first priority should be control unrest in the valley. The members of newly formed front were also present at the press conference. |
