| BJP is searching like minded parties in Valley. Is there any? | | | Unbelievable, it may sound, but the Bhartiya Janta Party is looking for a “like minded” party in Kashmir to go in for an alliance for the forthcoming assembly elections. This was announced by the BJP general secretary Arun Jaitly who was in the town earlier this week. Interestingly, in Jammu, where BJP has dozens of like minded parties, it wants to run alone. One wonder if there can be party in Kashmir which shares a mindset with BJP? Jaitley says that the party will contest all the seats from Jammu region and will go all alone and will not have any track with any political party. But to strengthen the nationalistic forces. BJP will align with those individuals and groups in Kashmir and Ladakh region, which have a nationalistic outlook. He said they are waiting for announcement of elections by the election commission. Assembly election activity has picked up in five key states of the country which shared their term with Jammu and Kashmir but here people don’t have any idea about their festival of democracy. A consultation process has been going on for a couple of months and earlier this week, the Election Commission made a final ground assessment visit to the state. The Election Commission team returned to New Delhi after two days of assessment and meeting fueling speculations that three-phased elections may be announced next week after the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Even though the full Election Commission team headed by Chief Election Commissioner of India N Gopalaswamy did not give its mind but the representatives of the political parties who attended the meeting are reported to have voiced a near-consensus on holding elections sooner. “Barring some genuine reservations from two political parties, almost every party appeared in agreement that there is no strong reason for putting off elections”, a political source told Early Times. |
