| Samiti includes Ladakh in discrimination discourse | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 12: Asserting that Jammu and Ladakh regions are equally discriminated by the successive state governments, Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS) on Sunday asked Jammu and Ladakh to get united to fight against discrimination and injustice. Addressing media persons here today, Leela Karan Sharma, convenor, SAYSS said that two members of Samiti visited Ladakh region to thank the people of Ladakh for their support in the recent agitation. He said Brig (retd) Suchet Singh and Udey Chand who met various political and social organizations there were informed about sheer discrimination meted out with Ladakh. Sharma said that Samiti fully supports the demands of Ladakhis which included opening of Mansovar road via Ladakh, inclusion of Bhoti language in 8th schedule and grant of Union territory status. The convener asked the people of Jammu and Ladakh to get united and collectively fight against discrimination and injustice. The SAYSS convenor said that as far as written agreement between Samiti and government is concerned, our core issue of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has been sorted out but some other demands regarding withdrawal of cases, compensation to traders and transporters are still pending despite the fact that the deadline set up by the government in this regard is fast approaching. He warned the government to implement these demands and reminded that the SAYSS has not called off its agitation but suspended it. He said SAYSS has formulated a charter of demands which include equitable treatment to all the three regions, end of discrimination, separate funds allocation. He said the Samiti will see as to which political party include our chatter of demands in their manifestos. The convenor however, appealed to all Jammu based political parties to sit one-to-one and decide political strategy so that votes of Jammu will not divide and at the same time he cautioned people against the moves of Kashmir based political parties. Prof Narinder Singh and Brig (retd) Suchet Singh were also present at the press conference. |
