| Citizens meet on empowering Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 12: Different views were expressed by the participants at a seminar on the topic of ‘Political empowerment of Jammu region’ organized by the Jammu enlightened public here today. Though there was broad consensus that no political empowerment of Jammu region and fulfillment of its regional aspirations can be thought of without the participation and involvement of all the communities and the people inhabiting all the sub regions of Jammu, yet some of the speakers laid emphasis that separate state of Jammu alone can solve the burning problem facing Jammu and empowering it politically while others were for evolving broad consensus over the solution emphasizing that no solution which divides Jammu region on communal lines will be in the interest of Jammu as well as the country. The participants at the seminar were of the unanimous view that any solution imposed upon unwilling and unprepared sections of the people, will only prove counterproductive and alienate some sections of the people in the region from its mainstream. The consensus that emerged after thorough and lengthy deliberations by a galaxy of enlightened and awakened citizens of Jammu, which included some senior advocates, journalists and some from the corporate sector, was that any formulation for empowerment of Jammu region and fulfillment of its regional aspirations must be all inclusive. Senior journalist Yash Bhasin, who presented his key note address on the subject, set the tone for the debate. Randhir Singh Ex-Minister, D K Khajuria Senior Advocate, S S Anand Lehar Senior Advocate, Jagdish Gupta Advocate, Rajinder Singh Jamwal Advocate, S Nariender Singh former Director Information, Inderjeet Khajuria hotelier, Prof Devinder Sharma and Uday Chand took part in the deliberations.
