| Writers felicitated for awards | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 12; Pt. R. N. Koul, Memorial Trust, felicitated Dr .K. L. Chowdhury and Bimla Raina, who have been recently awarded the highest state award for their literary works at a convention held today. Dr Jitendera Singh a renowned diabetalogist, columnist and political thinker was the Chief Guest while Dr .K .N. Pandita, a renowned writer and political analyst was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Moti Koul chairman of the Trust threw light on the philanthropic activities, achievements and future plans of the Memorial Trust. Welcoming the guests and the august gathering the Chairman said that the KP community survived in exile and maintained their identity mostly due to cultural and literary efficiency and commitment. Saying that Dr .Chowdhury’s stature in literature, medical services and philanthropist approach is unparalleled and community is proud of him, he said that the contribution of Bimla Raina to the literature in exile is commendable more importantly being a women writer. On this occasion, a two minutes silence was observed in memory of Padam Shri Pushkar Bhan, an artist of repute who breathed his last recently in New Delhi. Pushkar Bhan had become house hold name in Kashmir for his role in Radio programmes particularly in “Zoon Dab” and for his serial Drama “Machama.” Speaking on the occasion Bimla Raina, a mystic poet termed ‘Lalded’ as the cultural icon of all Kashmir’s and also recited some of her “Vakhas”. While speaking on the occasion Dr. Chowdhury said that he is deeply moved by the honour bestowed upon him today. He said that to get recognized by ones own people is not easy thing, even prophets have been denied that honour. Writing in general has served him well in his crusade against the social and political injustice of the people driven out of their homes and hearths but writing poetry is a natural impulse with him. It has satisfied his inner urge to better himself and help him raise the self from the mundane to the sublime. He announced that like his earlier books the royalty of this book will also go as donation to the Shirya Bhatt Mission Hospital for poor and indigent patients. He also announced to put part of the award money of this book to the Missionary Hospital. Dr .K. N. Pandita on the occasion termed the poetry of Dr Chowdhury as the message of encouragement, optimism with clear vision. His narration is not only the out flow of pathos but is a great boost for the common masses. Dr. Jitendera Singh appreciated Kashmiri Pandit writers and poets for their role in the field of literature during the period of exile to uphold the real Kashmiryat and lauded the contribution of Kashmiri Pandits not only here at Jammu but in other cities of India and abroad as well. He also appreciated the role of Kashmiri Pandits in the recent agitation led by Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti. He was all praise for the Pandits for mobilizing their all resources and becoming part and parcel of this agitation. Noted Senior Journalist Shyam Koul, also addressed the gathering and congratulated the award winning poets for their role in the literature in exile. |
