| Experts find flaws in recruitment process | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRIANGAR, Oct 13: Experts here allege that the rampant lackadaisical attitude shown by the government in the recruitment process not only demoralizes deserving candidates but also paves way for corruption and favoritism. Not a single department is free from the malpractice since almost everywhere politician, bureaucrat and the influential class have a lion’s share. These people play such a tactics which are outside the perception of laymen and consequently ensure the cozy posts for their kith and kin. According to noted educationist Prof Nazir Sheikh, University of Kashmir, “Interviews are meant for poor students who are often labeled as incompetent as they do not have access to influential people. This way we end up throwing away valuable talent,’’ Sheikh further maintained that the recruitment agencies while formulating the criteria barely give any consideration to job skills, experience and the intelligence of the aspirants. They generally evaluate the candidate by mere academic merits ignoring all together their talent prerequisite in different job spheres. “It is unwise to give weightage to student’s competence on account of their academic merit only. The fact remains that the mass copying, sale of question papers still characterize our examination system. Owing to wrong recruitment policies deserving candidates are feeling dejected, insecure and demoralized,’’ he further asserted Another distressful feature is the unwarranted delay in the recruitment process. After advertisement of posts it takes government years to conduct interviews. In the process, candidates cross the eligible age limit and automatically become ineligible for the interview. It seems interviews are mere eye wash to legalize the backdoor entry “Three years back state Board of School Education advertised various posts and charged Rs 500 from the candidates. To our utter dismay as of now interviews have not been conducted. It seems mere time buying tactics in order to recruit blue eyed candidates,’ states Farhat Deeba who had applied for the post of PRO in the SBSE This poignant phenomenon is formidably overshadowing the scenario of employment avenues. Hence, competitions have lost their significance. Therefore there is nothing artificial when students feel restive while reacting to the pronouncement of competition. “We used to believe so far that enthusiasm is the way to climb the acclivity of success. This proverb falls flat in wake of inappropriate procedures of appointment and red-tapism”, says Shazia Nazir, graduate from National Institute of Technology. She further adds that the administrative snags and corruption creates hassles everywhere for a deserving candidate. Nevertheless, the situation is grave here as no one raises voice against the corrupt officials who are at the helm of affairs. |
