| Jammu Civil Society stresses integrity | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 13: A two-day conference on ‘Jammu Moving on’, organized by the Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation (CDR), and attended by around 70 citizens across the Jammu region concluded here last evening. The participants at the conference had come from various parts of Jammu region including Poonch, Rajouri, Thanamandi, Surankot, Mehdhar, Mandi, Sundarbani, Doda, Baderwah, Kishtwar, Kathua and Samba. The participants had a detailed discussion on the situation arising out from the political turmoil that J&K witnessed due to the Amarnath land controversy. The focus of the discussion was the impact of the turmoil on intra-regional and inter-community relations. It also deliberated on the steps needed to be undertaken to restore harmony and reconcile differences within the region. The broad consensus that emerged at the end of the 2-day conference was that the integrity of the State and the region is maintained and the plural and secular character of the State as well as Jammu region be upheld. It was decided to form a broad-based civil-society group with the purpose of restoring confidence and trust among the communities. |
