Call spade a spade
6/14/2021 12:24:35 AM
President of Peoples Democratic Party and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, seems to have realized that the guns cannot resolve issues.
While condemning the Sopore militant attack in which two policemen and two civilians were killed Mehbooba Mufti said, “Guns picked up by the youth here, will not resolve the issue. In fact, it complicates the issue. Such attacks defame the people of Kashmir and only result in more force being used here in the name of terrorism.”
It seems that Mehbooba Mufti needs to be reminded that waging a war against the State is terrorism and it cannot be justified, nor can the attacks like Sopore be termed as any fight for a noble cause. She needs to understand that cowardly acts of firing and grenade throwing at crowded places and attacking policemen who were performing their duty to ensure that people follow the COVID-19 norms is terrorism and no one can call it an act of bravery. Mehbooba should muster courage and call spade a spade and terrorist a terrorist.
When she was the J&K chief minister, she left no stone unturned to help the separatists and the anti-national elements. She devised rehabilitation schemes for the militants and provided general amnesty to more than 10,000 stone pelters. Her acts as head of the erstwhile State encouraged the elements inimical to peace to indulge in more and more violent acts. She was the one who used to advocate that talks should be held with militants and left no opportunity to threaten New Delhi. After the BJP pulled out from the government led by her she went on to say that more Salhuddins and Yasin Maliks will be born.
She in one way or other always batted for settlement of Kashmir problem. On many occasions she went on record to claim that peace cannot prevail in Kashmir till Pakistan is involved in talks.
After J&K’s transition into a union territory, the noose has been tightened around Mehbooba and the leaders like her. They are being held accountable for their misdeeds and now they are talking about guns cannot resolve any issue.
Mehbooba should realize that had she not acted as the spokesperson of separatists during her tenure, things could have been better in Kashmir. As chief minister she should have acted tough against the militants, but she ensured that they are not annoyed and she remains in the good books of their bosses. Her mere condemnations won’t work.
