EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 14: Degree College Udhampur boys, proving that they are the better stuff, today registered their second win in a row over a city college, this time Government MAM College to pave the way for quarterfinals of the annual inter-college table tennis competitions organized by the Department of Physical Education, University of Jammu at Gymnasium Hall, here. With having no professional playing arena at their disposal, the Udhampur boys still managed a victory over experienced side of MAM College beating latter 3-2 in the pre-quarters. Kumar Abhinav played the all important second reverse single to guide Udhampur College to a surprising victory. The efforts by a national player, Nitin Kesar of MAM College went in waste as he could not get the needed support from other team mates. Nitin won both his matches. In another match of the day, Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) also won the match to make it into the last eight stages. Meanwhile, in women’s section, ASCOMS upset the defending champion, Law School. ASCOMS girls won 3-1 in the best of five game. With today’s win, ASCOMS girls have entered the semifinals. Today’s matches were officiated by Ravish Vaid, Sandeep and Rajan Tah under the supervision of Ramesh Magotra of Department of Physical Education.
