| Public rues one way petro price hike | | Why prices are not slashed when crude rate drops, ask people | | SANDEEP BHAT JAMMU, Oct 14: Each time when prices of crude oil shot up in the international market, petro product prices are raised in India but when prices come down there is no corresponding slashing down of prices back home. The commoners in Jammu have voiced their concern on issue which pinches the pocket every day. A hue and cry was raised by the oil companies when prices of crude oil in the international market touches 135 dollars per barrel, and pressure was put on central government to raise the prices of petrol and diesel in the country. The rise in prices of petrol and diesel was not liked by the common masses, and resented the government un-wanted action. Because it is the common masses who have been badly effected, as prices of essential of daily use touches new heights. New prices of crude oil in international market have come down to 90 dollars a barrel and the oil companies in the country have turn a deaf ear in this regard. General public demands that the prices of petrol and diesel increased be slashed down with immediate effect so that people have sigh of relief. If prices are brought down, prices of other daily use items will also come down. While talking to this correspondent people demanded that the central government should at once reduce prices of petrol and diesel which has been raised by Rs 4 and Rs 2 at once. Rakesh Mahajan a small scale businessman said, Union petroleum minister, Murli Deora had assured the country when prices of crude oil comes down in international market same yard stick will be applied in the country also, but he till failed to keep his promise. He demanded immediate reduction in petrol prices in the country. Rekha Kaul, a final year B.Sc student said about 70% students own motor-bike or scooty, but high prices of petrol put them in awkward position as their monthly pocket money received from parents is not in a position to meet other demands. She urged that centre govt should at once reduce prices beside some subsidy be given to student while purchasing fuel. Ranjit Singh scholar in University of Jammu and Suhail another college student endorse the views of Rekha Kaul and said student community in the country faces problem due to the hike in petrol. |
