| Road network widening in Ladakh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Oct 14: To provide better connectivity in the hilly and desert regions of Kargil and Leh, a comprehensive road communication program is under progress in these twin districts. In Kargil district alone, work on 53 road projects involving a cost of Rs. 11.60 crore is presently under execution under state sector, while 27 road schemes have been competed in the district during last fiscal at a cost of Rs. 16 crores. Under NABARD and PMGSY 38 more road projects at an estimated cost of Rs. 44.33 crore are under progress in the Kargil district. These projects are expected to be completed by the end of this fiscal and would connect dozens of villages with the district headquarters Kargil. Presently 835 kilometers of road length is being maintained in the district which, include 200 kms black topped, 300 kms metalled and 345 kms fair weather roads. Work on 40- km Kargil-Suru World Bank aided prestigious road project involving a cost of Rs. 24.72 crore is also a pace. In Leh district a total road length of 1230 kms has so far been constructed providing road connectivity to 99 villages out of 112 villages. Over Rs. 11 crore have been earmarked in the annual district plan for the current fiscal for development of roads in the district. |
