EC has hurt democratic spirit: BJP
10/14/2008 11:20:30 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 14: Dismayed over the Election Commission’s dithering and indecisiveness in the matter of holding elections in Jammu and Kashmir, while announcing poll schedule for other five states, the state BJP President Ashok Khajuria said that conspicuously leaving Jammu and Kashmir has disheartened and shocked all the democracy loving people of the country, especially of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing media persons here today along with former State President Daya Krishan Kotwal and State General Secretary Shamsher Singh Manhas, the BJP Chief said that it was UPA government’s non-committal attitude in providing necessary back up for the elections which has left Election Commission indecisive and undecided. He added that this exposes the Congress’ realization that it is going to lose the coming elections. It was sad that while Prime Minister in Srinagar said that his government wants elections in the state at the earliest but on the other hand his party men had been working at back for its postponement. ‘This is the true Congress culture’, he said and cited the example of NDA government led by Atal Behari Vajpayee of having firm faith in democracy when it ensured holding elections in state on time even though in these elections only one BJP MLA was elected. Lastly, he said that even delaying elections would not benefit Congress and it has to pay for its mal-administration and anti-people actions while it was in power in the state.
On this occasion, Moti Koul and Shakti Raj Parihar joined BJP. They were welcomed into the party fold by Ashok Khajuria and other leaders, who garlanded them.
Moti Koul, an Engineering Graduate and MBA, was the President of Panun Kashmir for three years. He was also President of Kashmiri Pandit Association, Mumbai and for the last 10 years has been running successful business in India and abroad.
Shakti Raj Parihar, a resident of Salana in Inderwal Constituency is a prominent social figure and is presently chairman All J&K Muthaida Mazdoor Union
