| 4th intrusion bid in 5 days | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 14: With the increase in infiltration bids along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, army troops have foiled fourth such attempt in five days and shot dead a Pakistani militant in a gunbattle in Poonch district and forced others to flee back. Giving details of the infiltration bid, a senior army official said a group of militants entered the Indian territory from across the LoC in the Kanchi post forward area of Mendhar sub-sector of the district late last night. "Alert troops guarding the LoC laid a cordon in the area and launched a search operation during which the gunbattle erupted," he said. A militant was killed in the gunfight, the official said, adding the operation was still on. "There is an increase in infiltration attempts from across the border. But alert troops have foiled these attempts. This show desperation in militant leadership in Pakistan to send in more militants in view of the coming assembly elections in the state," he said. Army and BSF have further beefed up security along the LoC and IB in the state following intelligence reports that several big groups of ultras are planning to enter Jammu and Kashmir. |
