| Jet retrenchment upsets aviation aspirants | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 15: The decision to lay off at least 1000 employees by the private airliner Jet Airways has triggered a sense of insecurity among young aspirants aiming to fly high in limitless skies. Large number of students studying in private institutions, imparting training for variety of jobs in the Aviation sector, was a worried lot as bleak future stares them in the face at the beginning of their long careers. While interacting with the students outside these private institutions here today, these students shared their concerns and hoped that things may improve in the days to come. The most disturbing thing which created a lot of heart burning among student community was the manner in which the staff on probation period was shown the door. A student in his final leg of the training at the Gandhi Nagar based training institute said, it is shocking news for all of us who were looking forward to joining the aviation sector and making big in life. He said the way the private airliner has laid off its employees was equally important and exposes junior professionals working in the industry to such grave risks. He said under the prevailing circumstances no one is sure about his /her fate. The best of the lot working with the private airliner has been shown the exit doors by handing over one month’s salary as maximum compensation. "It is ridiculous and beyond comprehension for some one like me who was getting ready to enter the sector within few months, Jatin Goel (name changed) said. The worst affected are those students, who were anxious to join the airline industry as crew members. Since the private airliners are thinking of cutting down on their frequency the lay offs in the segment were the maximum hence lesser scope for those students who had opted for this segment during their training. |
