Vohra listens to grievances, assures redress

SRINAGAR, Oct 15: Moved by the representation of the physically challenged educated youth during his first public hearing, Governor, N N Vohra, today directed for an immediate review of the recruitment rules, making these compatible with the Reservation Rules in vogue.
Vohra keenly heard the pleas of Javed Ahmed and Riyaz Ahmed, both post-graduates and physically challenged, who sought his intervention in ensuring the horizontal reservation and removing the anomalies in the rules which were in contravention of the directives and circulars issued by the Central Ministries from time to time.
In all, 24 deputations and individuals met the Governor in the Civil Secretariat and apprised him of their collective and individual problems.
In addition to the deputations, at the outset, a 30 member delegation of the Employees Joint Action Committee, led by its President, Abdul Qayum, met the Governor and listed various demands which, inter alia, included implementation of the 6th Pay Commission Report, enhancement in the retirement age from 58 to 60 years, regularization of adhoc, daily rated and contractual candidates etc.
A deputation of All Parties Sikh Co-ordination Committee pleaded for declaring Sikhs as a minority community while the Joint Coordination Committee of Contractual/ Consolidated Employees sought their regularization. A deputationist of the Self Help Group of Engineers' Association broke down while narrating their woes and requested the Governor for taking earnest measures about their absorption as some of them had already crossed the age of 40 years.
A delegation of Hindu Welfare Society, Kashmir sought employment to their wards and accommodation for those who had not migrated from the Valley.
Responding to the demands of a delegation from Gurez, the Governor directed that a team of senior officers should visit the area immediately and take stock of the problems and steps to be taken for their redressal. A deputation from Dargah, Srinagar, drew the attention of the Governor towards beautification of the peripheral areas while a deputation from Tulbagh, Pampore, sought immediate upgradation of the roads, alleging that these were in a dilapidated condition. A deputation of Funkar Cultural Organization, led by G R Gadda, inter allia, demanded setting up of an Art Gallery in Kashmir while a deputation from Awoora, Kupwara sought up gradation of the High School and improving the infrastructural facilities of other educational institutions in the area.
The other deputations which met the Governor included a deputation of Disengaged Sales Tax Guards, Sweepers of the Civil Secretariat, Unemployed Trained Physical Education Youth, Humanity Welfare Organization, Rehbr-e-Ziarat Technocrats United Forum, Unemployed Electric Diploma Holders Association, Residents of Tral led by the former MLA, Dr G N Bhat and People's Welfare Society, Hazratbal.
