| Governor visits Museum Complex; inauguration likely on Dec 30 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Oct 16: The multi-storeyed Museum Complex in the summer capital is all set to be inaugurated on December 30. Governor, N N Vohra, today visited the upcoming complex, went round various blocks and reviewed the pace of work. Interacting with the officers and the engineers, Vohra indicated that an eminent expert would be requested to advice on the display of artifacts in the galleries in the new complex. He discussed the project details with the engineers and was apprised that the Museum Complex is estimated to cost Rs 30.74 crore. The complex will comprise three components - main museum building, the administrative block and the car parking area – and will have an overall floor area of about 1.05 lakh square feet. The Complex has been conceived in the shape of two pairs of hands symbolizing the past and the present. A Central Atrium has been designed in the shape of "attaining heights and receiving the blessings of nature'. The interior of the main building is conceived in such a manner as would enable to move conveniently through the various display galleries. The lower ground floor is proposed to act as storage of museum artifacts while the ground floor shall house the reception and the museum shop. This floor shall also have display galleries of archeology, arms and ammunition and other artifacts. The Governor was informed that the first floor is proposed to house the display galleries for decorative art, manuscripts and natural history. The second floor will house display galleries of anthropology, minerals, paintings and textiles. Commissioner/Secretary Culture, N K Verma, Managing Director, Police Housing Corporation, Ravinder Kotwal and Director Archeology and Museums, Khursheed Ahmed Qadri, accompanied the Governor during his visit to the Museum Complex. |
