| Eyebrows raised in Police promotions | | | SUMIT SHARMA JAMMU, Oct 16: Eyes brows are raised in section of police department following promotion of 60 Inspectors as Deputy Superintendents of Police as various Inspectors alleged that pick and choose policy was adopted during the selection process. They alleged that even those on whom the enquiry was going on too were included in the promotion list. When contacted, AIG Personnel told EARLY TIMES that if this has happened the matter will be looked into. One such glaring example was the inclusion of the name of one Inspector Mohammed Farooq Khan in the promotion list as Dy SP ordered by the Home Department vides order NO Home-707(P) of 2008. The name of the said Inspector was included in the promotion list even though he was found guilty by the Jammu and Kashmir State Human Right Commission who had directed the Government to recover Rs one lakhs from the eleven erring police officers and Inspector Mohammed Farooq Khan was also among them. SHRC had also recommended prosecution of the accused cops. In spite of all this, he was promoted while the deserving ones were altogether ignored. Pertinent to mention here that Inspector Mohammed Farooq Khan, including ten other police officers bodily harmed one Ghulam Qadir during interrogation in November 2006 and the victim approached to Human Rights Commission and on whose plea the then acting chairman of SHRC Habibullah Bhat directed the police authorities to expedite the process of filing charge sheet against the erring police officers who were booked on inflicting the wounds on the detenue during custody. The Commission had passed the recommendations to the state government through Chief Secretary after Superintendent of police Rajouri filed a report in which he held 11 police personnel including SHO Darhal, Mohammed Farooq Khan and Sub Inspector Mohammed Bashir responsible. The Commission had directed the government to collect Rs 25000 each from SHO and SI where as three constables, five SPOs and a follower had been asked to contribute the balance of Rs 50,000 as compensation towards the Qadir. |
