| Taking sleep out of Congress BSP begins with bad omen | | On embarrassing retreat, party’s J&K chief says, | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 16: I was hypnotized by BJP leaders to speak against Gen Sec Narinder Kashyap. Now I am feeling guilty
Ex-Minister and PDP leader Manjit Singh and NBP leader Dr Sat Pal have given their consent to rejoin BSP
Few months back the Congress was not only worried but seemed deeply wary of its constituency being run over by the elephant but when elections are drawing near the Bahujan Samaj Party is hit by first bad omen of revolt. Earlier this year when BSP leader and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had a massive rally in Jammu, the Congress had the ground slipping beneath its feet. With four Scheduled Caste MLAs in its kitty after 2002 assembly elections, the Congress has always considered Dalit vote as its password to reckonable presence in Jammu region. Mayawati’s social engineering thus came as a dampener. It was in this backdrop that Congress rushed in hurry to have the then Chief Secretary, a Dalit hero, in the party fold and decorated him with cabinet berth to sell the outreach plan among the community. Now since Congress stands in disarray of sorts, chances were opportune for the Bahujan Samaj Party to cash in on the uncertainty of leadership and agenda. Ironically, after giving few sleepless nights to others, Bahujan Samaj Party has thrown its internal discomfort to the fore. That BSP’s state president Yash Pal Bhagat made no-holds-barred allegations against national General Secretary Narinder Kashyap, party’s most visible face in state, is nothing surprising in political parties. This often happens. Within 24 hours of his utterances, the way Bhagat has eaten up all his words and offered a public apology to Kashyap reflects highly centralized super power structure calling shots. After his Thursday press conference when he made “sensational allegations” against Kashyap, a coyly Bhagat today claimed that he was hypnotized by BJP leaders to make allegations against senior party leaders. “I am feeling guilty for all this”, said Bhagat. He also claimed that former Minister and Peoples Democratic Party leader Sardar Manjit Singh and another estranged party leader Dr Sat Pal, who has of late floated his own party, have given their consent to rejoin the Bahujan Samaj Party. Meanwhile, when contacted in view of Bhagat’s allegations, Narinder Kashyap strongly defended his decision of giving tickets to various aspirants. “We are working on the directions of our Supremo Mayawati and also with input and suggestions from state President Yashpal Bhagat and other office bearers. There is no truth in allegation made by the state president on giving mandate to candidates”, Kashyap told EARLY TIMES. First two lists, he said, “which comprised around 40 candidates was release earlier and he (Yashpal) had no objection and when third list of candidates was released, he raised objection to only one candidature out of 12 candidates”. When asked about the contentious nominee, Kashyap said, “we gave mandate to Jagmeet Singh Jagga, who is also state general secretary, from Marh constituency, who is a strong contender against NC candidate Ajay Sadhotra. We feel, Jagga will give good fight to two time winner, Sadhotra in that constituency, because Jagga used to remain instrumental in helping NC candidate to win from that constituency, when he was in National conference”. He added. “this time, we don’t want to repeat our old candidate Ashok, because we want to won from that constituency. So there is no truth in selling party mandate as alleged by Yashpal Bhagat. They further said, the state level leaders and Distt. Level leaders have supported us and has pledged their cooperation at all levels”. |
