Early Times Report

Kishtwar, June 30: Even 74 years after Independence people living in remote areas of Padder in Kishtwar district are without electricity. The electrification project that started over a decade ago is still incomplete.
According to the details available with Early Times, the villages in Padder Sub Division including, Hangoo. Haloti, Lusanie , Dangel, Jashadae, Suncham and other hamlets having a population of more than 5000 are without electricity- while electricity was restored in Machail area of the Padder Sub Division nearly three months after the transmission line was damaged by PMGSY contractor during road construction.
At the same time only electric poles were set up at villages Gandarie, Tun, Muthal, Kajrooni upto Ishtyari and village Chashoti was connected with the system— but no electricity has been yet provided to the people living in this village— the project which is being managed by the Project Wing Jammu— the nodal agency for implementation of the rural electrification project in Jammu Division, according to official sources, has been working on the project since 2013.
In 2018 the tenders were allocated to Shalaka company after the project went into hibernation during PDP-BJP regime.
Speaking to Early Times the locals said that during the past years they have visited several offices, met several ministers, Chief Ministers, Governor but nothing much has been done. “The DPR exercise was started by the NC-Congress government but the ground situation didn’t change. During the PDP/BJP government the PDD failed to float the tenders that resulted in cost escalation of the project,” they added.
The people called for expediting the execution of work so that before the onset of the winter, the people living in Padder area of Kishtwar District get to see electricity.
Despite repeated attempts, officials of Project Wing Jammu of Power Development Department could not be reached for the comments.
