| Border residents demand enhanced security | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 17: People living in the upper reaches of Poonch and Rajouri districts have demanded setting up of security pickets in those areas where the Army and the BSP columns had been withdrawn over a year ago. The demand was raised during the visit of the Inspector General police, KK Sahni to various police stations in Poonch district. Official sources said that when people in the area came to know that Saini was inspecting these police stations to ensure that the cops were on the alert they met the police officer and demanded that the security pickets were set up in areas from where Army and the BSF companies had been withdrawn. Saini was informed that people had felt scared on account of militants roaming in the areas. Official sources confirmed that other problems plaguing people in the twin border districts was shortage of kerosene oil and other consumer goods Their another grouse was that officials in various civil departments, including the departments of health, education, revenue, usually played truant. In certain Government departments between 20 and 30 per cent officials would remain present with the result problems of people remained unattended. |
