| Airport vehicle parking a security poser | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 17: Despite heavy presence of security personnel outside Jammu airport throughout the day, large section of the area, including boundary wall of the airport premises, remains one of the most vulnerable points for militant strike, exposing loopholes in the security grid. Barring securing main gate of the Jammu airport security personnel pay little or no attention towards the security of the boundary wall and the general area in the close vicinity. Large number of vehicles belonging to VIP's and other passengers remain parked outside the airport. In addition several unregistered and private vehicles remained parked parallel to the boundary wall of the airport all day long without any check. An abandoned letter box fixed close to the main gate invites anti social elements to drop any explosive material to trigger a blast as it is very easy to push material inside the letter box. The rear portion of the boundary wall is also one of the vulnerable areas posing risk to the airport security. Though security agencies from time to time claim to have reviewed the security of the airport premises it seems they have failed to pinpoint these glaring loopholes and have done little enough to plug these holes in order to prevent any major strike. Large numbers of passenger vehicles not allowed inside the airport are parked in haphazard manner on both sides of the airport road giving enough opportunity to miscreants to take advantage of the lax vigil during peak hours. |
