| Valley students to enjoy free train ride | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Oct 17: Northern Railways will issue free monthly season tickets to students availing its newly-introduced train service between Anantnag and Budgam stations in the Kashmir valley. "As part of its commitment towards social causes, Indian Railways has introduced free monthly season tickets for students to travel with convenience and ease," a railway official said. Female students up to graduation level and male students up to XII standard can avail of the "meaningful initiative for the student community" of Kashmir, the official said. The free tickets will be available at Rajwansher, Budgam, Srinagar, Pampore, Kakapora, Awantipora, Panzgam, Bijbehara and Anantnag railway stations, he said. "Special camps are also being set up in Srinagar, Anantnag and Budgam districts for issuing the free tickets," he added. Last Sunday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh flagged off the first train service in the Kashmir valley, realizing the decade’s old dream of the people in the region through the prestigious project launched in 1998. The train service was an instant hit with thousands of people board the train on its first day of commercial operations on October 11. |
