| Manda, Panjtirthi, Ware House, Paloura to have parking lots for easing traffic | | Idle parking lot decided at Nagrota | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 17: Emphasizing on better management of traffic on the eve of Darbar move, Divisional Commissioner Sudhanshu Pandey said that an idle parking would be made at Nagrota for the vehicles coming from Banihal, Udhampur and Reasi. He directed RTO, Jammu to work out setting up of Nagrota Parking within one week and matador service between Nagrota Bus Stand and city in second phase. He was reviewing the arrangements being made for the upcoming move of offices to the winter capital at a high level meeting here today. It was decided that to reduce traffic congestion due to heavy vehicle movement after the Darbar move, parking lots would be developed at Manda, Panjtirthi, Ware House, Paloura and other areas. It was also decided that all the heavy vehicles would be parked in the idle parking lots developed in the outskirts of the city and not allowed to block the main roads. Pandey directed the Traffic and PWD departments to work in coordination for erecting dividers on four and eight lane roads so that traffic chaos during peak hours can be minimized. He asked the Police and Traffic officers to constitute a team to conduct regular drive for removing encroachments on foot paths and roads besides setting up an institutionalized mechanism for fining the encroachers. Taking strong notice of the pits on the road stretch between Kunjwani and Satwari, Pandey called for taking the issue with CPWD as the road poses a continuous threat of accidents. Issues like construction of rotary at Valmiki chowk, passenger sheds, traffic lights, reduction in the circumference of Jewel Chowk rotary were also deliberated in detail. It was decided that light prefab matador and bus commuter friendly passenger sheds would be constructed besides conducting a drive to ensure their use by the public. |
