| POLICE INFORMER REWARDED | | | Jammu, September 12 : An ex-service man, Girdhari Lal caused a piquant situation for the police authorities in Jammu when he expressed his desire to return the cash award of Rs 50,000 , that he had earned for saving human lives by detecting Improvised Explosive device outside the main gate of the Chest and Disease hospital opposite the Jammu medical college, if the government agreed to provide job to one of his three unemployed sons. Girdhari Lal had felt happy when he was handed a packet containing Rs 50,000 by Inspector General of Police Dr SP Vaid in his office in Jammu on Tuesday. But his excitement was short lived when Dr Vaid announced that the police had decided to reward those who give lead to the police regarding the activities of militants including their plan of planting IED’s and throwing grenades. In addition to this the IG announced that the government would give job to the informer or to his or her next kin. When newsmen wanted to know why Girdhari Lal could not be given a government job, Dr Vaid left the room after saying that since Girdhari Lal was a old man he couldnot be adjusted in any government department. He hastened to add if Lal wished his son could be given a job. When newsmen broached the job issue with Girdhari Lal, he said that he was not given an opportunity for seeking a job for one of his three sons because he was brought to the office of the IG and the cash award was handed over to him without allowing him to express his mind. |
