Police say suicide, family suspects murder
10/17/2008 10:34:51 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 17: Controversy erupted over the death of a MBA student who was found dead inside a rented accommodation in Govindpora area of Chatha under the jurisdiction of Police Station Satwari yesterday afternoon.
While the police claimed that the deceased committed suicide by hanging himself with the hook of ceiling fan, the victim's two younger sisters negated police claims saying that he was murdered by some unidentified persons and then hanged with the grill of the window pane.
However, the circumstantial evidence which was almost destroyed due to the negligence of cops who reached the spot indicated that the deceased was murdered. The victim was bearing deep injury marks on his face and forehead and the household articles in the room were scattered. Moreover, the victim was hanging with the grill of the window pane which is very low at height.
The victim identified Imran Khan, son of Qadir Khan of Bhatpora Kupwara presently putting up at House number 105, Govindpora Chatha who was MBA student of Punjab Technical University and studying at Kacchi Chawani, was found dead inside the rented accommodation yesterday afternoon at 1 PM.
Two younger sisters of the deceased who were studying in KV School returned to their house yesterday afternoon. They found the door of the house locked from inside. Despite repeated knockings, when they get no response from inside, they called their neighbours. Their neighbours also knocked the door for a while and after getting no response from inside they removed the Air cooler from the ventilation and entered the room.
They noticed the victim hanging with the grill of the window pane which was very low at height and the household articles in the room were scattered. The noticed some visible injury marks on the face and fore head of the victim and a deep strangulation mark at his neck.
The locals informed police about the incident and the cops from Police Post Chatha rushed to the spot. The cops haphazardly shifted the body to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital for autopsy least bothering to seal the scene of crime. The cops almost destroyed the scene and the evidence of crime. They not even carried any photography or FSL examination on the spot and initiated inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPc.
It is notable to mention that in most of these types of cases police is destroying the circumstantial evidence due to its negligence. Its inefficiency is proved from the fact that majority of the blind murder cases of this nature are not worked out.
Two sisters of the victim told News Agency of Kashmir that the victim had scuffle with some locals and the landlord Foja Singh during the recent agitation on Amarnath land row. They denied the possibilities of suicide saying that he had taken his breakfast as usual, ironed his clothes and polished his shoes for attending the exams which was scheduled yesterday afternoon.
The body after autopsy was handed over to the family members for last rites. The body was sent to Bhatpora Kupwara where it will be buried.
Concerned police officers when contacted said that the initial investigations revealed that the youth had committed suicide. The details of postmortem reports are still awaited and inquest proceedings in the case are going on.
