| SRINAGAR SEX SCANDAL : | | ROPING IN CBI FOR PROBE SMACKS OF MISCHIEF: SEPARATISTS | | Srinagar, July 10 : A section of Kashmiri separatists attribute "motives" to the sex scam, that rocked the Kashmir valley recently, on the plea that the way the CBI has been ordered to inquire into the scandal was part of the game to "malign, defame and denigrade valley's women." More than three senior separatist leaders told the Kashmir Independent Press on Monday "we condemn the sex scam and favour heavy punishment for those found guilty in the scandal." They said "at the same time roping in the CBI for holding the probe smacks of mischief." One senior separatist leader said "it is for the first time that a CBI inquiry has been ordered in Kashmir in the sex scam.I believe that the Chief Minister,Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, was used by the central agencies for ordering a CBI probewas part of the plan of defaming Kashmiri women and a handful of officials and political leaders." He said that the way the CBI treated those allegedly involved in the crime lent credence "to my belief that the central agencies were trying to defame Kashmiri women." In support of his contention he said that even in Islamic jurisprudence rape is established when four eye witnesses substantiate it.He said it was again a part of conspiracy that those allegedly involved in the crime were denied the right to seek legal aid and instead of it they were brought to the court in hand cuffs which was against law which provides that until the guilt is established no criminal be produced before the court in handcuffs. Another separatist leader said that those who had been named by Sabeena or other women were arrested by the CBI."Why others whose name the women had divulged to the police and the CBI were not arrested,"another separatist leader asked. He said that those arrested were small fries when compared to the big guns whose name had been disclosed by women. Whatever the separatist may have to say on the issue peoples' anger against the alleged rapists is till to die down. In the midst of public anger vested interests have stepped in.They have started resorting to extortion by telephoning bureaucrats, private secretaries to ministers, former private secretaries and other political leaders. The vested interests dish out a threat saying "if you do not pay hefty amount your name will be leaked out to the CBI."Some gullible people have paid the money and others have switched off their mobile phones and the landlines so that they do not receive any threat forcing them to pay money to the extortionists |
