| Sonali Kumar reviews horticulture development | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 19: Principal Secretary Agriculture Production Sonali Kumar visited the Advanced Centre for Horticulture Development Govindpura-Ramban today. Director Horticulture, Jammu J. L Sharma accompanied her. While briefing the Principal Secretary about various development activities going on at the Farm for the development of horticulture in the division, Director Horticulture informed that more than 3.00 lakh fruit plants of strawberry, olive, kiwi, walnut, apricot, pomegranate etc. besides 14000 exotic root stocks of apple, quince, cherry and plum are available for distribution to the farmers during the current year. Kumar inspected High-Tech Green houses installed at the Farm where quality fruit plant material is raised under controlled conditions besides visiting the Olive Oil Extraction Mill installed by the department under Indo-Italian Olive Development Project. She also inspected Kiwi and Olive Orchards at the Farm and expressed satisfaction over the quality of Kiwi fruit. Chief Horticulture Officer was directed to create massive awareness among the orchardists of adjoining areas for establishment of Kiwi orchards and enlist the beneficiaries to be covered under Technology Mission and other development schemes during current fiscal. She appreciated the development activities going on in the Farm and instructed for further boosting these endeavors so that the benefit could reach to the poor farmers at ground level. |
