| Manvinder among 3 J&K gymnasts in Indian team for Asian meet | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 19: Senior gymnasts from Jammu and Kashmir, Manvinder Singh, Manpreet Kour and Tejpal Kour have been selected to represent the country in the Asian Aerobics Gymnastics Championship to be held at Bangkok (Thailand) from December three to December seven. The championship is being organized by Asian Gymnastics Union and Thailand Gymnastics Federation under the aegis of International Gymnastics Federation. Before the team’s departure, the selected gymnasts shall undergo a national coaching camp to be conducted at Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre, Gandhi Nagar from November One. The camp shall continue till the departure of the team for the venue--Bangkok. “It is a matter of pride for state, especially for the J&K Gymnastics Association, that three of its gymnasts, Manvinder Singh, Manpreet Kour and Tejpal Kour have been selected to represent the country at the Asian level,” general secretary of the Association, Ajit Singh Wazir told SAN. These J&K gymnasts have been named in the Indian team after the penal of selectors witnessed their performance during the selection trials held at Aurangabad in Maharashtra recently. Trainees of senior gymnastics coach of the J&K State Sports Council, S P Singh, Manpreet Kour got selected in the Individual Senior Women event. Manpreet has also been named in the Mixed Pair team with Manvinder Singh again in senior category. Another state gymnast, Tejpal Kour has been selected for the Individual event in junior group. “The Indian team is comprised of Arvind Sharma and Jodha Singh (seniors group) of Services in the Individual Men’s event while Manpreet Kour of J&K and Pratyusha of Andhra Pradesh have found berth in the Individual Women’s event ,” informed Mr Wazir adding that in the Mixed Pair event, Manvinder and Manpreet of J&K and Ameya Joshi and Kartikee of Maharshtra have been selected. The Trio Event is represented by Rajan, Amit and Sanjeev of Services and Ameya, Tarak Dass and Sidharth of Maharashtra. Gymnastics coach from J&K, S P Singh and Ranjan of Services shall be accompanying the team as Coaches while Inderjit Singh, who is joint secretary Gymnastics Federation of India, has been named manager. |
