National seminar on early childhood care begins

JAMMU, July 15: Population Education, Gender Education, ECCE & Education for all Wing of the SCERT-J&K Divisional Office Jammu conducted the Day one of the 3 day National Seminar on Early Childhood, Care and Education (ECCE)- Policy, Practices and Pedagogy through virtual mode being organised from 15th to 17th of July 2021.
The seminar is being organised on the directions of Principal Secretary to Govt., School Education Department, B.K.Singh IFS and under the guidance of Director SCERT J&K, Prof. Veena Pandita and supervision of Joint Director SCERT Jammu, Surinder Kumar.
The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Veena Pandita, Patron of the seminar who spoke in length and breadth about ECCE and its importance viz-a-viz NEP-2020 wherein she hoped that the learnings from the seminar will benefit the participants who will help in transformation in the field.
The purpose of this three day seminar is to provide a platform for different stakeholders to understand different pedagogical approaches, innovative practices, and reflections on NEP-2020 with respect to ECCE mainly focusing on New National Policy of Education 2020 and ECCE, Planning and execution of ECCE by the government organizations, Quality issues in ECCE, Pre-service and in-service training of ECCE functionaries, Curriculum of ECCE- Theoretical base and existing practices, Assessment in ECCE, Use of ICT in ECCE, Research and innovative practices in ECCE, Linkages between ECCE and primary schooling. The seminar is being attended by SCERT , DIET Faculty and resource persons Pre-Primary Schools from Jammu Division.
The seminar was co-ordinated by Deepak Sharma, Senior Academic Officer, SCERT J&K who threw light on role of ECCE in Child's development and said ECCE is more than preparedness for primary school and it aims at holistic development of child social, emotional , cognitive and physical needs in order to build a solid and broad foundation for life long learning and well being.
Introduction to the Seminar was given by Tapasya Sharma, Sr. Academic Officer, SCERT-JK wherein she focussed on teachings of RABINDRANATH TAGORE 's Learning in nature & Learning with nature and to follow our ancient knowledge and practices in early childhood education with the blending of modern day teachings.
Dr. Reeta Sonawat, Director, ECCE, Ampersand group in her presentation focussed on sustainable knowledge society and gave insights about India centered New Education Policy in terms of ECCE and stressed that for a sound foundation and literacy ECCE, is the key component.
Prof. Shashi Manhas, Former HoD -Home Sciences Deptt, University of Jammu in her presentation laid emphasis on providing enabling environment to the children and to view Child from a Child's angle. & should be motivated and encouraged to explore play and experiment.
The session was chaired by Dr.Reeta Sonawat who discussed and reflected the day's proceedings and congratulated Prof Veena Pandita & her team from SCERT Jammu for being amongst the first few in country to organise National Level Seminar in EECE.
The vote of thanks was presented by Sh.N.P. Singh, Head of the Population Education, Gender Education, ECCE & Education for all Wing -SCERT J&K Jammu. The technical support was provided by Yugal Kishore & Akash Khajuria.
