JAMMU, July 15: An official meeting of National Youth Awardees Federation of India, J&K convened at Circuit House Jammu which was chaired by Bhikhu Ramji Idati, Chairman of DWDNC, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India.
The meeting began with a formal welcome address and brief introduction of participants by Kiran Kumar Sharma, General Secretary, NYAFI, J&K. On the occasion, number of issues of J&K youth in general and national youth awardees in particular were discussed.
The awardees showed great concern over the non sports activities in the state and discussed union govt. model of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It is pertinent to mention that youth services department in J&K is non functional over the decades. The federation demanded that there is a need to form a J&K non sports youth council who will work directly under the Ministry of Youth services, J&K for the well being of non sports youth. There should be a separate budget allocation for the youth council for smooth functioning.
All the national awardees should be made members of state level, regional level and district level council. This body must be made independent of Nehru Yuva Kendra, NSS and should have their own state level policy framework according to diverse needs of the youth. Ravi Sharma, Deputy Director youth services and sports, J&K assured to take up the matter seriously and will act as soon as possible. He also assured to discuss the matter of including National Youth Awardees in the list of state guest.
