| Doctors’ strike paralyse hospital work | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 20: Normal work in almost all the government hospitals of Jammu has been crippled with the extension of strike call by the temporary Health employees of the Medical department today. Demanding regularization, the temporary employees of the department are sitting on dharna outside OPD of the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital. Though the department have made alternative arrangements after extension of the strike call yet the patients suffered in all the hospitals. The employees are protesting under the banner of All Temporary Medical Health and Education Employees Association. They are demanding regularization of all 390 temporary employees of the department on the pattern of Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers. One of the striking employees alleged that the authorities were totally adamant towards their genuine demands. "We are getting Rs 50 per day which is too less as most of our employees are coming from the far flung areas and their bus fair exceeds to Rs 80. How is it possible for an employee to survive at this meager pay", he questioned and added that they have given several representations to the higher authorities but they have turned blind to their genuine demands. "In order to awake the sleeping authorities we gave 72 hours strike call on October 16. We were hoping that the authorities will respond to our demand of regularization but it was unfortunate that none of them bothered to do so. So now we have extended our strike call for three more days and even if the authorities fail to respond properly, then we will think of going on indefinite strike", another striking employee told .It is pertinent to mention here that these employees held several demonstrations in support of their demands but they were deceived by the authorities on one or the other assurances. |
