Students debate J&K’s accession to India

JAMMU, Oct 21: A symposia was organized by “Universal Foundation”, a Social Organization, at Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School, Mubarakh Mandi on the topic, “Formation of Jammu & Kashmir state and its Accession with Indian Unioin” were female students of 11th and 12th standard, drawn from different schools participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Heena Jamwal, a student of 12th class of Hr. Sec. Schoo, Mubarakh Mandi Jammu said about the dynastic rule of the Dogra Empire. Neha Sharma, a student of 12th class from Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School, Canal Road spoke about the birth of its founder, Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1972. In her address she highlighted that he was the only Indian ruler who carved out a state for himself. Bharti Khosis of G.G.Hr. Sec. School, Mubarakh Mandi said about Maharaja Hari Singh who preferred to acceded to the Indian Union.
Principal of School, Gurcharan Singh apprised students about the Instrument of Accession executed by Maharaja Singh on Oct. 26, 1947. President of Universal Foundation D.S Jamwal while paying rich tributes to the Founder of the State Maharaja Gulab Singh, on his 216th Birthday Anniversary said about the historic facts taken from ancient Kalhana’s famous Rajtarangni and a connected history dating from the 7th century A.D., of Kashmir being part of the Empire of Ashoka, and how Kashmir was inaveded by Tartars, and in the 6th century A.D. came the white Huns and later the valley came under the sway of Hindu Kings. He told the students how the dynastic revolutions followed and with the propagation of Islam, the valley passed into the hands of Muslims rulers and with the advent of the Mughal rule, Kashmir passed under their rule in 1586. Later, with the weakening of the Mughal power, Ahmad Shah Abdali wrested Kashmir from them and thus commenced the Afghan rule. In 1989, Sikhs invade Kashmir and with the defeat of the Afghan Governor, the Afghan rule was replaced by the Sikh rule of Ranjit Singh, Maharaja of Punjab.
