| Anti-BSP front strengthens | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 21: The BSP has received a major setback in Jammu and Kashmir after its former Chief, Yashpal Bhagat, joined hands with Dr Satpal, who heads National Bahujan Party in the formation of a new organization. Dr Satpal today confirmed that Yashpal Bhagat decided to strengthen his hands for the formation of a new organization and the formal announcement to this effect would be announced shortly. Last year the BSP had suffered loss after it expelled Dr Satpal, who was the founder member of the party. Following his expulsion, he floated the NBP. Recently Yashpal Bhagat revolted against the activities of the BSP national General Secretary, Narender Kashyap, while alleging that Kashyap and Bhagwan Singh had selected party candidates for fighting the election after charging money from them. Though Kashyap denied this charge, Yashpal Bhagat conveyed to the BSP supremo, Maywati, the need for recalling Kashyap and Bhagwan Singh. However, Bhagat too faced expulsion and Dr Satpal took the opportunity to interact with Bhagat and succeeded in luring him away from the BSP. In 2002 the BSP had fielded its candidates in 33 constituencies and had won one seat only. Its share of votes was 4.50 per cent of the total polled votes in these constituencies. In order to form an organization, the BSP leaders were planning to rope in Kranti Dal Chief, Labha Ram Gandhi, who is a senior leader representing the interests of Pakistan occupied refugees settled in Jammu. |
