He said this single step constituted a major confidence building measure and was bound to usher in a new era of peace and prosperity across the LoC as also promote understanding on various issues between India and Pakistan. In a statement, Prof. Soz said after throwing open the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road for passengers, the inauguration of truck service today was a development of far-reaching importance and was being naturally welcomed by the people all over the State. After 1947, he said, this was for the first time that truck services would operate across the LoC, which would enable the people on both sides of the LoC to come nearer to each other, and ultimately lead to better relations between India and Pakistan. Prof. Soz emphasized that Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and more particularly, Fruit Growers Associations should be associated with all events and their ideas need to be appreciated so that peoples' participation would grow by the day. On this auspicious occasion Prof. Soz congratulated the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, whom he met last evening in this connection, for his personal interest in opening this historic route for trade across the LoC. |
