| Banks asked to focus on rural credit | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SAMBA, Oct 21: The District Development Commissioner, Samba, Sourabh Bhagat today called for more concerted efforts from banks and line departments for giving desired fillip to the rural credit dispensation level and concentrating on credit linkage of Self help groups. He also exhorted the banks and KVIB/KVIC/DIC to work in close coordination and ensure successful implementation of Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program. He was reviewing the performance of banks of Jammu division during District Level Review Committee (DLRC) meeting here today. The meeting took sector-wise review of the progress made by the financial institutions by the end of the first quarter of the current fiscal in relation to the Annual Credit Plan 2008-09, besides reviewing the Government sponsored schemes, position of deposit/advances and CD ratio and the progress made under KCC scheme and acceleration of flow of credit to agriculture including SHGs. The DDC also discussed the problems relating to recovery of over dues and enjoined upon the banks to open ‘No Frill Accounts’ as per RBI guidelines and make efforts for 100% financial inclusion of the district. He instructed the BDOs to supply village wise details of non banked households to the LDM so that the banks operating in the area could arrange for linking those with bank by opening ‘No Frills Accounts’ Chief Manager Lead Bank SBI R. K. Koul apprised the meeting that an amount of Rs. 13.94 crore stands disbursed up to June 30, 2008 as against the annual target of Rs. 112.39 crore registering an achievement of 12.40%. He informed that Rs. 3.35 crore has been disbursed for retail trade recording achievement of 40.75% followed by disbursement of Rs. 77 lakhs under housing recording an achievement of 12.43%. |
