EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, July 22: National School of Drama (NSD) alumni, dedicated theatre director and designer Gagandeep featured today at the 45th episode of Natrang’s National Theatre Talk Show, ‘Young Voices of Theatre’ at the Facebook page of Natrang Jammu where she shared his inspirational thoughts with the global audience.
A gold medalist from the Department of Theatre and TV, Punjabi University, Patiala, Gagandeep further honed her skills of theatre in design and direction from NSD. She had her work experience from Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, London and has been directing and designing for National and International ventures including; ‘International Theatre Festival-2008’ at Beijing, China; ‘International Theatre Festival, Bharat Rang Mahotsav-2009 and 2012’ at New Delhi, ‘International Commonwealth Theatre Festival-2011’ at New Delhi, ‘National Theatre Festival of NZCC-2011’ at Jammu, Shimla, Chandigarh and Patiala, ‘India Festival’ at Prague. She was also awarded the Junior Research Fellowship in 2015-2016 for ‘Scheme for Award of Fellowship to Outstanding Persons in the Field of Culture’ from the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. Her major directorial ventures include; ‘The Landweaver’, ‘In the name of honour’, ‘Nithalla’, ‘Antara’, ‘Samay Ka Ghata’, ‘Eklavya Uwach’ etc.
In a candid conversation with Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee actor and Natrang’s senior artist Anil Tickoo, Gagandeep narrated her journey of theatre which started in childhood at school level. Later the experience at youth fests was very captivating for her. Gagandeep believes that one learns a lot when he/she starts from scratch and going for learning with pre-thoughts hampers one’s growth.
She opines that nature teaches a lot and learning is not confined to the classroom only, one has to be observant to learn from the surroundings and the people around. All the training is not what we learn formally, informal interactions also play a vital role in shaping one’s personality. Gagandeep is in a persistent quest to build a strong bridge between performance and academics and also invokes the attention and wisdom of others in this connection as this is the need of the hour. She also shares that being a theatre teacher, other than developing the artistic capabilities of the students, she always tries to inculcate compassion and humanity in them.
